AF4SD

Women Empowerment in Armenia

Women’s empowerment is critical for society and the Armenian Fund for Sustainable Development(AF4SD). It is especially true for women whose husbands were killed or severely wounded during the 2020 war.

The creation of income-generating activity or vocational training need funding, but the investment is worthwhile because it ensures their self-sufficiency and power of decision.

The AF4SD launched the vulnerable women empowerment project after the humanitarian aid phase. With the crucial support of  AAAS, the Australian Government, Saint Sarkis Charity Trust and the Arev Society we put in place a social and economic reintegration program for vulnerable women. Through vocational training and small business creation, the project ensures the sustainability of assistance.

Following the devastating 2020 war in Armenia, we launched the *Vulnerable Women’s Empowerment* program, helping over 100 women from war-affected families to start income-generating activities and secure employment.
However, the massive influx of refugees to Armenia in 2023 has significantly increased the demand for support. In 2024, we funded 35 small businesses, many of which were run by refugee women, and organized 38 vocational trainings.

The Arev Society provided management support for the implmentation and reporting of these projects.
