ENVIRONMENT IN ARMENIA
Clean Sevan
Environment protection and environmental education for its preservation are at the core of attention for the Armenian Fund for Sustainable Development.
One of the gems of Armenian nature is Lake Sevan. Apart from being a national symbol and one of the biggest freshwater high-mountain lakes in Eurasia, it is, first of all, vital for the overall ecological balance and economy of Armenia.
Despite the number of environmental protection initiatives in recent years, during the summer, the environmental degradation of the 8 Sevan public beaches continues, caused by irresponsible visitors’ activities.
To help Sevan National Park to improve garbage collection and increase public awareness among visitors, with the support of the Veolia Foundation, the AF4SD purchased and offered 68 environmental protection awareness-raising billboards and 158 waste containers and dustbins with 240l and 1100l capacity.
Every year, the Armenian Fund for Sustainable Development, where necessary, renews self-adhesive posters for 60 signs and 158 waste containers.
Environment knowledge awareness raising campaigns at schools
To avoid the environment becoming irreparably compromised and reduce damage to the natural environment, the Armenian Fund for Sustainable Development has organized recycling workshops in schools with the best ‘Waste Art” prize awards.
Cultivating environmental awareness in schools is to become environmentally aware and conscious. How we conduct ourselves at home or in nature impacts positively or negatively on the environment.
The key message the AF4SD conveys to schoolchildren is the necessity to change human behavior toward the environment and be mindful of preserving the natural world.
